This really resonated with me. I love how you keep coming back to being “new” instead of acting like you’re supposed to have it all figured out by now. I’m new at giving myself more grace than I used to and not picking myself apart the way I did in my 30s. Thanks for sharing this so honestly!

Love the reframe of newness as ongoing permission rather than deficit. The shift from nit-picking at 30 to self-confidence at 51 captures something real about how external validation pressure drops while internal clarity rises. The line about being surprised by happiness at 51 vs 31 makes total sense once priorities shift from proving to choosing. Aging as priviledge not burden is the exact mental flip that changes everything about how we experience thetransitions.

Not saying it’s easy to age for sure but changing the narrative helps so much!

I love the line that says, I am happier at 51 than you were at 31. That really reasonated. I turn 45 this year and I am finally feeling like I have really created a life that I love and that now that I understand how to do that, it only gets better from here.

Yessss 🔥🔥 💯!!! It keeps getting better by choice

I just discovered your newsletter. I'm 40, but using a similar framework to make this decade my best yet. I'm more confident, happier, and more fun now than I've ever been! Thank you for sharing!

I completely agree with you Amanda. I'm 43 and for once I'm finally "feeling" myself! Beautifully written Julie. :)

So much honesty here. New doesn’t mean behind, it means alive to a part of life you’ve never walked before.

Also new at this 50s thing. I like it. Sort of. At least I like me better now than at any other age. I don’t like mirrors as much though. They surprise me on the regular. 😂

Julie Ciardi-50 Not Finished📕's avatar

Mirrors can be quite shocking. But nothing more shocking than when I’m looking down at my phone turn the camera on and it looking at me. Holy hell 😆

I’ve even asked if that was even me!! Omg. I feel like I’m 27. Just don’t look like it anymore.

I loved reading this Julie. The idea of giving yourself permission to be a beginner I’ve heard many times but there was something refreshing about the words and the energy of hearing ‘I’m new at this!’ 🧡

Julie Ciardi-50 Not Finished📕's avatar

Ahhhh yes. There is something in the simplicity of those words that is freeing!!!!

Every time I read this since listening to read it to us on one of your podcasts, I allow myself the feeling of renewal, the freedom or curiosity and creativity…

Being a new to something is awesome

It’s where innovation and invention thrive

When you consciously decide that it is not reserved for traditional times like college, new careers, new moms, and step into your beautiful midlife with a hell yeah, I’m not done, sig idk any things are changing in my life, and I cannot wait to explore it and share it…

You become her!

Living out loud in midlife … fumbling through it with a playful and open mind has been a blast!

Hi, Julie. I’m enjoying your posts. We have a couple of things in common. IBM. New at a lot … because every day is new. Would love to chat if you’re interested. Let me know and we’ll find a time that works. ~ María

This is so powerful because we are all new at so many things regardless of our age and experience in life. I'm new at following what I really desire versus going down the path that others felt was 'right' for me.
