Substack + Human Design = the keys to the Gold Age for women near or over 50
START HERE! - Welcome to 50 Not Finished
Hey! I’m Julie Ciardi!
I am the author of 50 Not Finished and a 30-year business mentor to women.
I spent about 25 years in corporate, where I was a Vice President of Marketing and Sales at IBM. Today, I am the founder of IGNITE Her® — a global mentorship for women near or over 50 who are ready to do their life’s work.
Rather listen than read? Here is an audio version (like a podcast)
At the end of 2025, I came over to Substack, and I want to tell you everything — why I’m here, what this publication is all about, and what I have waiting for you. But let me give you a backdrop first.
Why I Was Frustrated with Social Media
For the last eight years, I have been growing this mission and this movement, and I have been extraordinarily frustrated with my options to get it out into the world in a big way. That frustration? It was social media.
I do not want to be an Instagram influencer or YouTube famous.
I’m just not interested in it. I believe those platforms truly require you to be a performer — an actor, a comedian, a reality TV star. That’s not how I wanted to build my business.
I spent 25 years in a professional corporate environment. My skill set is not that of a reality TV star. I have deep things I want to share. I want to help women understand their human design, help them find their voice, and fully flower in their last chapter of life to do their legacy work.
There really hasn’t been a platform for the thought leader. And so for the last eight years, I built my multiple seven-figure business with thousands and thousands of clients all over the world through two things: paid ads — Meta ads and, more recently, LinkedIn ads — and OPA, or Other People’s Audiences. I go on other people’s podcasts, masterclasses, masterminds, and groups, speaking in front of their audiences.
Those two things are how I’ve grown my business for 8 years.
And I’ve spent most of my time creating content for my clients, which I’ve loved. I have a tremendous amount of thought leadership, especially around Human Design — but not just any Human Design. I rewrote the Human Design system by a woman, for women, incorporating traditional Human Design, Gene Keys, and the scientific work of Dr. David Hawkins.
I love what I get to do. But I’ve been frustrated that I haven’t been able to get out in a bigger, bolder way with this movement — outside of spending time on OPAs or paying for ads.
That is, until I heard about Substack.
Why Substack Blew My Mind
I heard about Substack in the fall of 2025. I had actually never heard of it before then, even though it’s been around for six years. And honestly, I was not wanting to add another platform. I thought two things: one, that it was just a newsletter platform, and two, that it was going to be like every other social media platform. I wasn’t interested in either of those things.
Then my mentor got on Substack and said, “I think you need to come check this out.” So I did. And I was blown away.
Substack has been an incredible way to not only get in front of new people and new audiences organically through my thought leadership — but it’s also allowed me to monetize very quickly. I generated $26,000 in my first month, which absolutely blows my mind. Because I have never made any money on Instagram or Facebook. In fact, I’ve only ever had to pay on those platforms.
Complete game changer.
I also became a Substack bestseller in a very short amount of time. Why does this matter? Because Substack will organically recommend you to your ideal audience. That’s pretty powerful.
What Is 50 Not Finished All About?
50 Not Finished is my book — which I’m relaunching later this fall, and I’m so excited about it. This book is a culmination of the huge personal growth and development of my 40s: the transition from a high-paying corporate job to going after my dreams, starting my own business, and doing my legacy work.
But 50 Not Finished is not just a book - it is a movement.
It’s also about a feeling I began to have around the age of 47. Instead of dreading 50 — which I had been, I really didn’t want to get older — I started to actually get excited. I decided I was going to go into 50 with extreme intention. I let my hair grow out into this really cool silver, white, and dark slate color that I can’t believe is mine. I started to take better care of my body and my mind.
And right around this time, Human Design came into my life.
Human Design had come into my life before, and I kept shooing it away because it was very complicated and I was not interested. But as I continued to develop bigger and bigger goals going into my 50s, God, universe, source — whatever you want to call it — was essentially saying: you need to look at this human design thing. So I did. And I decided to rewrite the entire language.
By the way, you can get your own free report — the 50 Not Finished Free Human Design Report — just for reading this. Make sure you grab that below, but make sure you come back, because what I’m about to share is really powerful.
The Four Hot Topics I’m Talking About Here
Inside this publication on Substack, I’m talking about four big topics that all tie together.
1. Midlife.
I’m talking about being near or over 50 and having that feeling that we’re not done — that there is so much more to go, so much more to be done, and that we feel like we’re just getting started. I’m talking about the Gold Age: this idea that we can actually make more money in the second half of our life than the first.
Nobody taught us that, because they told us to save for retirement and then retire and make no money. That is not my plan.
I’m also talking about motherhood with adult children — which is totally different than being a mom of young children, and we really don’t talk about it enough. I have a 22-year-old, a 20-year-old, and a 12-year-old, and navigating that season of motherhood is something I deeply want to address.
And yes, aging is very much part of this conversation. I want to talk about being pro-aging — about things like Chiron, the 50s cycle in human design, and how our purpose is just beginning to unfold after 50. I want to talk about the frequency of aging and being intentional about how we want to age, being grateful to be able to age.
I want to talk about facing death and mortality — not in a gloom and doom way, but in a real way. Because we pretend it’s not going to happen, and I’ve always seen it as a driver for me to do big, bold things.
When I left IBM, I sold my house. Family of five, I told my husband — who was a police officer at the time — that in order for me to leave and do my dream, we were going to have to sell the house. And we did. That understanding of death and mortality guided me toward that decision.
2. Human Design.
I am obsessed. I find that Human Design is the biggest clarity tool there is. Most women, when they hit midlife, feel a pull. They know there’s a calling. I call it a midlife calling, not a midlife crisis. We feel it and we know it’s important, but we don’t know what it is. We don’t know how to give words to it.
I believe Human Design is one of the best tools out there for learning your unique voice, your calling, your role in this new era of humanity we’re stepping into. I love to bring in the practical side of human design. I’m not massively woo — I’m actually very science-forward. I see science and spirituality as the same thing, and I love to bring all of that conversation together.
3. Business.
I love to talk business. I think business is just so fun and so exciting — and it can be so simple, if you want it to be. We’ve overcomplicated it inside the online space. I like to look at business as our spiritual calling.
I love to give simple tips and inspiration, share more of my story about leaving IBM and building my business, bust the retirement myth, and really give us all a permission slip on what’s next. I want to help women see that building a profitable, joyful business in the second half of life is not only possible — it’s actually where the magic is.
4. Substack.
Substack is incredible, and I’m going deep on strategy, tips, and how to maximize your thought leadership here. One of the things that is genuinely in my Human Design is that when I’m passionate about something, I go deep into it. I’ve gone really deep in Human Design. I’m going really deep in Substack.
And I’m a business strategist. When you combine those two things, I’m going to help you optimize your strategy on this platform in a real, actionable way.
The Substack Soapbox Membership
I want to share something I’m really excited about. If you want to go deeper — finding your voice using Human Design and using Substack as your platform — you’re going to want to join the Substack Soapbox membership, which is my paid membership exclusively on Substack.
Here’s the concept I love most: you don’t pick a niche, you pick a soapbox.
For those where English isn’t your first language — a soapbox is when you have something really important to say, and you pull up a box, step up onto it, and speak it out into the world. You stand up above the crowd so they can hear you.
When you get up on your soapbox and you speak, your niche forms around you. And Substack is the first platform I’ve seen that actually allows for that. That’s what we talk about inside the Substack Soapbox membership.
Here’s what’s inside the membership:
A Private Podcast with tips, Q&As, and audios of my trainings. I’ll be bringing in Substack experts to interview as well.
Weekly Substack Soapbox Strategy Sessions. I’ve already done sessions on how I’m incorporating Substack into my existing business, a Substack 101 with a workbook, one on paid tiers, and more coming on your About page, content strategy, what’s working in Notes, how to bring your podcast into Substack, and how to convert free subscribers into paid subscribers and into your higher offers.
Her Profit Map™ — Free for Members. This is my paid human design report, and I’m including it for free inside the membership.
It’s a 70+ page Human Design personalized to you report written in my language — a language that is far more understandable and practical than traditional human design. I rewrote the language specifically so that you do not need a reader or analyst to understand your own design.
You can be a student and study your own design yourself. With the report, you also get an audio course and a custom GPT — my Julie Bot, which people are telling me is blowing their minds.
This is worth the $79! Most Human Design experts charge minimum $500 for a deep report.
A Premium Content Library. I’m building this out right now and I’ll be dropping exciting things in there for members. I love to surprise and delight — it’s my favorite thing to do.
There’s a monthly option and an annual option — if you do annual, you save a lot of money.
I’m starting the price point low, but I will be increasing it over time. Once you’re in at a certain price point, you are locked in at that price unless you leave. So that’s something to consider. Go and check it out — there’s a link below.
Who I’m Here to Help
Most of the women I work with do not want to build a seven-figure empire.
Right now I have a multiple seven-figure company with a team of seven — it’s a small business. Not everyone wants that. Most of the women I work with want to have a multiple six-figure revenue coming in, maybe with just a virtual assistant or one other person helping with marketing.
They want to enjoy the work they’re doing — be profitable, be joyful, and make a meaningful impact in the world.
If that’s you, I can help you achieve that on Substack.
And if you’re a seven-figure CEO who is new to Substack and wants to learn more, I know your time is extraordinarily precious — so is mine. It’s why I always hire someone the second I want to do something and I want to do it right. I hire someone who’s doing really well at it and I learn from them.
For a select group of high six- to seven-figure entrepreneurs with strong brand presence and established businesses, I’d love to do a VIP session with you to help you with your Substack.
It’s application only — just email us at team@julieciardi.com and we’ll share what that looks like.
I’m So Glad You’re Here
In addition to the Substack Soapbox membership, I have Human Design courses, an All Access Pass in our IGNITE Her® Lab, a certification program, and business coaching programs — so much goodness to help women achieve whatever their mission and goal is.
I am here to serve and to help women near or over 50 step into their legacy work using Human Design — and using Substack as our Soapbox.
I would love for you to comment below:
