I have felt this way for OVER 10 years on social media! It is like the OPPOSITE of me! And to your point I have always felt like I have to morph into sorting I am not on social media and my #1 core value is integrity which is why it doesn’t work long term. We can pretend to be something else for a little while, but only a little while. Substack ticks all the boxes for my personality, background, gifts, skills, etc.
I'm not a coach, but I have had it with social media. It's fun, at times, but in my experience, more "time suck," less VALUE. I do enjoy some of the true social aspect of it...SOME of it...but in my business, I want to form deeper connections, have better conversations. I love this line in your post, "On Substack, depth is the product. And depth is exactly what you have to offer." And like you said, it's what people are looking for here!
I have spent soooo much time building my platform on other social media sites with pretty much no return. Letting go has been hard -- not because I can see that it's not working, but because it's become my habit, my Comfort Cave. Thankfully, I'm so over it and have stepped into the sunshine that is Substack!
1000% Totally agree. I always grew through collabs and teach my clients the same - I am loving substack and trying to figure out how to weave collabs into it now.
Just curious since you mentioned not being on social media but you are using ads. Where are you placing your ads? On social media? Sounds like you’re still using social media- with your paid ads- as the gateway to bring them over to your community. Am I understanding this correctly?
Hey! Correct. I have never used ORGANIC social media to grow my business. I have run paid ads for 6 years. All my Meta ads are currently driving leads to Substack. I don’t know how long my audience will still be putting up with FB/IG, so driving as many over here as possible.
Thanks for sharing this, Julie! I followed all of the rules on Instagram for a few months… but all of the media that got any traction was the nonsensical entertaining things I posted. While they gained me some followers, they weren’t people who wanted coaching or transformation. I am new to Substack because I want to create content that produces conversation and connection. This is inspired me and helps me feel that I am in the right place!

Sammeeeee. It’s why I never used organic social to grow my business the last 8 years. Paid only. And now Substack is my fave corner of Internet! ♥️
